João Cancelo Nears European Return as Inter Milan Push for Loan Deal
Portuguese full-back João Cancelo is set to leave Saudi Pro League side Al Hilal in the January transfer window, with Inter Milan emerging as the frontrunner for his signature. The 31-year-old, who joined Al Hilal from Manchester City in 2024 for around €25 million, has expressed a strong desire to return to top-level European football ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Inter Milan are in advanced negotiations with Al Hilal for a loan move until the end of the season. Club president Beppe Marotta has confirmed ongoing talks, highlighting the need for a right-back replacement due to Denzel Dumfries' two-month injury absence. Inter have proposed including veteran center-backs Francesco Acerbi or Stefan de Vrij in the deal, with Al Hilal keen on reinforcements in defense. The Saudi club is reportedly willing to subsidize a significant portion of Cancelo's high salary—estimated at €15-18 million annually—to facilitate the transfer.

Despite Inter's momentum, Cancelo remains hopeful of rejoining Barcelona, where he spent a successful loan spell in 2023-24. The Catalan club has made inquiries but faces financial constraints under La Liga's rules, delaying any firm bid. Juventus has also shown interest, though less concretely.

Sources indicate Al Hilal has set a Tuesday deadline for resolution. With Cancelo's versatility and experience, his arrival would bolster any suitor's title ambitions in Serie A or La Liga.
