Lingard Eyes Brazilian Switch After Celtic Snub
Jesse Lingard appears set for another unexpected turn in his career, with reports linking him to a move to Brazil following the end of his contract with FC Seoul last winter. The former Manchester United midfielder has been without a club in recent months, fueling speculation about where he might resurface next.
During his spell in South Korea, Lingard made 67 competitive appearances, contributing 19 goals and 10 assists. While those numbers suggest he remained productive, he has not featured in an official match since early December. To maintain his sharpness, the 33-year-old has reportedly followed an intensive individual training program. Even so, questions linger over his match fitness after such a lengthy absence from competitive action.
In search of a new challenge, Lingard is said to have approached several clubs. According to reports from TEAMtalk, he explored opportunities with Celtic FC and Rangers FC, as well as teams in England, but none pursued a deal. His name was also mentioned in connection with Feyenoord, where a reunion with former teammate Robin van Persie was viewed as a possibility. However, that scenario faded, reportedly due to squad developments including the arrival of Raheem Sterling.
Attention has now shifted to Brazil. Brazilian outlet Globo reports that Clube do Remo is making significant progress in negotiations. Based in Belém, the club has just returned to the country’s top division after a 32-year absence and is eager to make a statement signing. A contract running until the end of the season is believed to be on the table, with optimism growing that Lingard could soon feature in Brazil’s top flight.
If completed, the move would see Lingard follow in the footsteps of other experienced European players who have chosen Brazil as a late-career destination, including former United teammate Memphis Depay, now with Sport Club Corinthians Paulista. From academy prospect at Manchester United to stints abroad in Asia and potentially South America, Lingard’s journey continues to defy expectations, adding yet another unpredictable chapter to his career.
